A barge is stuck in the Fraser River near Langley, British Columbia

Work crews were called to deal with a barge that appeared to be stuck near the banks of the Fraser River in Langley on Saturday morning.

Images from the scene provided by CTV News show the vessel moving sideways near Two Bit Bar in Glen Valley Regional Park, west of Crescent Island.

Water also appeared to be pumped out of the wrecked vessel.

The second barge was pulled alongside the first, and a crane could be seen transporting a load of sand or gravel from one vessel to another.

Both barges have the “Ledcor Group” branding on the side. CTV News reached out to the company to ask for more information about what happened. This story will be updated if a response is received.

The Canadian Coast Guard told CTV News that the location is outside the “vessel traffic zone” and that it has had no reports of anyone calling for assistance in relation to the barge being stranded or stranded.

A local fisherman told CTV News he was in the area Friday night and saw a vessel that appeared to have run aground. He said it looked like the barge was stuck “pretty well” and would be there for a while.

The two vessels were quite close to shore and did not appear to affect navigation in the river.

A fisherman who spoke to CTV News expressed hope that the stricken barge would not suffer the same fate as the one that famously washed into Vancouver’s English Bay during the 2021 storm surge that caused flooding and mudslides in the province.

This vessel was stranded off Sunset Beach for about a year, quickly becoming a popular spot for selfie-lovers and the site of at least one marriage proposal.

Merchandise was created and sold, including t-shirts and a Lego set. However, people who lived in the area also complained that it was a wound that took too long to remove.

The English Bay barge was eventually cut up and towed away in pieces, with the completion of works at the end of 2022.
