Bakersfield police confirm fatal shooting at Marketplace, no charges filed

The Bakersfield Police Department has confirmed additional information regarding teenagers who took part in the shooting on the Market Square, as a result of which one died. Meanwhile, the Kern County District Attorney’s Office said it found insufficient evidence and referred the case back to the Bakersfield Police Department for further investigation.

Police confirm there was a report of a fight before the shooting Sunday night.

It is not known whether these boys took part in that fight.

Bakersfield police confirmed the two, 15-year-old Prince Michael Banner and 15-year-old Albert Brizeneau Jr.knew each other.

They said the shooting may have been an escalation of a past dispute.

Alberto allegedly shot Prince. He died in hospital.

BPD said Prince had a gun and was wearing a ski mask.

They said the location of Albert’s gun is unknown. According to the police, Albert had gang ties.

The prince has also been arrested before.

Police said it was not known how they obtained the weapons.

Kern High School District confirms Prince attended Stockdale High School.

KHSD officials also confirmed that Albert and Prince both attended Stockdale High School in 2023-2024. This year, Albert is studying in an independent program.

The Kern County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday afternoon that a complaint against Albert Brizeneau Jr. has been submitted to their office for review. They told Eyewitness News, “Our office has determined there is insufficient evidence and has returned it to the Bakersfield Police Department for further investigation.”
