Senzo’s heartbroken mother reached out to Kelly Khumalo’s mother, asking how she could communicate with her children without worrying that another family had lost a child.

“Do you want to die without telling the truth about how my child died?” she said.

“Mom, you just sit quietly. Why are you doing this to us?” she shouted.

No mention of attackers in initial reports

Senzo’s mother also recalled how she found the news, saying her other son, Sifiso, and daughter, Nokuthula, came to break the news.

Sifiso received a message from one of Senzo’s friends that he had been shot and was lying on the floor.

Her daughter also received reports that Senzo had been shot by mistake, but there was no mention that he had been shot by intruders.

Senzo shot himself while breaking up an argument

Mahosazana Vilakazi, Senzo Meyiwa’s aunt, also said that the first calls they received did not show any intruders.

She explained that Kelly called Senzo’s sister after the shooting and told Nokuthula’s husband that Senzo had been shot when he tried to stop a fight between Longwe Twala and Zendi Khumalo.

She added that she believed the five men arrested for the crime were not involved in the actual murder.

“They’re just using them as scapegoats. They were detained for other things,” she said.

“They have nothing to do with this case. Those who were in the house know the truth,” she added.
