Deadly shooting at apartment building marks 34th homicide in Virgin Islands this year

St. CROIX — A 19-year-old man died after being shot in the head in a fatal shooting Friday at the Walter IM Hodge Pavilion on St. Croix.


The VI Police Department said the incident was first reported by several 911 calls to St. Croix 911 at approximately 6:12 p.m., notifying authorities that a man was on the scene with serious injuries.

Police found a young man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. An ambulance took him to Juan F. Luis Hospital for emergency medical treatment, but he later died from his injuries. VIPD identified the deceased as Errol Stephen St. Jean after receiving confirmation from his next of kin. His death is marked on the 16th of St. Croix in 2024. John’s area has already recorded 18 homicides for the year, bringing the total to 34 so far.

The Department of Criminal Investigation of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Criminal Investigation Department began an active investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.
