Love Actually star Thomas Brodie-Sangster, 34, recalls how he was “bullied” by children who were “jealous” of his famous role and admits he feels “old” when reminded of his early films.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster has admitted he was previously “bullied” for his role in the 2003 romance Love Actually.

The actor, now 34, shot to fame playing lovelorn, baby-faced drummer Sam, the stepson of Liam Neeson’s hero, who confesses his love to his high school sweetheart, Joanna.

But even though this role opened many doors for Thomas, the actor went on to star in Nanny McPhee and Nowhere Boy, he recalled the downsides that his newfound fame brought him.

In a new interview with TelegraphThomas reflected on how the other kids who attended the same theater academy reacted to his fame and the constant time off because of his booming career.

He explained: “(The other students) were all asking where I was and were a bit jealous that I was leaving so much at school. But I always told myself it was good to go back to school to hang out with kids my age.

“People tried to molest me, but I don’t think I had enough. They tried to intimidate me for appearing in the film. But that was my job! I enjoyed doing it! So what was their point? In the end, I kind of befriended them and they saw that I was okay.”

Despite a fairly successful acting career, playing a number of serious and interesting roles in such projects as “Game of Thrones”, “The Queen’s Gambit” and “The Maze Runner”, Thomas is still mainly recognized for the roles that he played in his youth.

During the interview, he was asked to take a photo with a fan who remembered his role as Simon in the 2005 film Nanny McPhee, the eldest child of the Brown siblings.

And while he doesn’t mind the spotlight, Thomas admits he feels “old” when he thinks back to the role he played nearly two decades ago.

“It’s really cool. Mothers or, like, big dudes will come up and say, “I loved Nanny McPhee when I was a kid!” and now they are adults. It makes you feel a little old, but it’s nice. It’s like Love Actually, everyone likes it, it’s not controversial. It is a great honor for me to act in films that have stood the test of time.”

It’s ironic that the actor refers to himself as “old” because he is constantly told that he looks ridiculously young for his age.

Indeed, the fresh-faced actor, who has barely aged since rising to fame in 2003, is used to it, noting that he “gets so much,” and people are especially stunned when he points out how long ago Love Actually was .

These days, though, Thomas is all grown up, starring in the TV adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall, and is the companion of his loving wife Talulah Riley, 38, whom he married earlier this year.

Back in June, Thomas and Talulah enjoyed a fairytale wedding, complete with a horse-drawn carriage and rides.

The couple, who tied the knot at St George’s Church in Anstey, Hertfordshire, even shared their day with their pet pooch, who was tasked with carrying the rings during the nuptials, according to an insider.

Actress Talulah and the Love Actually star met on the set of the Disney+ drama Sex Pistols in March 2021 and announced their engagement last year.

Today, however, Thomas has grown up a lot, landing a role in Hilary Mantel's TV adaptation of Wolf Hall.
