PV Anwar, the ax that has lost its edge, UDF uses it discreetly in Chelakkar: Pinarayi Vijayan | Onmanorama News

Deshamangalam (Chelakkara): Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who campaigned in Chelakkara for LDF candidate UR Pradeep, spent a lot of time targeting PV Anwar in Nilambur, lending credence to rumors that he was damaging the vote bank from LDF. Anwar’s Democratic Movement for Kerala (DMK) is backing Congress rebel NK Sudhir in Chelakkar and has created waves in the district by promising to build 1,000 houses for homeless families.

Without naming Anwar, who has been relentlessly attacking the chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan called the MLA an ax that has lost its edge and hinted that the Congress-led SDF was using him. “Here, the SDS is trying to discreetly use an ax that has lost its sharpness. We have to be very careful in the last hours of our campaign,” he said.

The head of the government said that the “expert” is trying to create trouble and believes that he can say irresponsible things. “He goes to the hospital and does things that shouldn’t be done, taking positions that shouldn’t be taken,” Vijayan said in Deshamangalam. Anwar barged into the Taluk Hospital in Chelakkar and created a scene, saying it was understaffed. Based on a complaint filed by KR Hospital Superintendent Anil Kumar, the police booked the MLA under the Kerala Health Service Providers and Health Establishments (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act. The CPM called it an election gimmick.

LDF Election Committee Secretary AC Moideen also filed a complaint with the Election Commission, saying he violated the model code of conduct by promising to build 1,000 houses for the homeless. The election office of the Kerala Democratic Movement in Chelakkar saw many homeless people queuing up for houses. Construction of three buildings has also started. Anwar responded to the complaint by saying that his movement also supports Sudhir and he is free to build houses for the homeless. He hurled a Malayalam proverb at the CPM for filing a complaint against him: “(A dog) does not eat grass, and (it) does not even allow a cow to eat grass.” This can be loosely translated as CPM will not help the poor, nor will it allow others to help them.

However, in his campaign speech, the CM said that “the expert lost his mental balance when Comrade AC Moideen filed the complaint”. He asked voters not to be provoked by what Anwar says during his campaign speeches and stunts. “He makes incorrect statements to provoke people,” the prime minister said. “I have only one request to people. Do not fall for such provocations. This is an ax that has lost its edge. No one will give it to him,” he said. LDF supporters on the ground are happy with their candidate Pradeep, but fear that anti-government sentiment will undermine their chances. They hope that Sudhir will attract anti-government votes instead of popular Congress candidate Rami Haridas.

The chief minister also slammed the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for allegedly colluding with Jamaat-e-Islami, which he described as a communal organisation. He recalled that when he had earlier opposed Jamaat-e-Islami for promoting the idea of Khilafat, the organization had twisted his words to claim that he was opposing the Khilafat itself. “Many good things will be done during the reign of a king or caliphate. But the status of democracy is above all. Can we support the call for a caliphate now?” he said.

Pinarayi Vijayan cited the Punnapra-Vayalar rebellion as an example, explaining that it was instigated by the then Travancore Diwan Sir CP Ramaswamy Iyer, who proposed an “American model” that allowed for a democratically elected legislature under royal rule and administrative control by the Diwan. Punnapra-Vayalar workers responded with the slogan “American Model in the Arabian Sea,” he said. “Countless people raised slogans and sacrificed their lives for true democracy. This is the state,” said the head of the CM. He said that the Muslim League is keeping Jamaat-e-Islami in the by-elections and is mounting a big campaign. would work,” he said.

Chelakkara has about 40% Muslim voters, but traditionally they belong to different parties like CPM, Congress and Muslim League. The CPM-led LDF has been winning the constituency since 1996. This time the IUML has launched a concerted campaign in the district and the CPM fears that Muslim voters may consolidate against the LDF candidate and votes may go in favor of the Congress. Ramya Haridas.
