Biden stumbles on event, refers to former congresswoman Giffords in past tense: ‘nothing wrong with me’

President Biden erupted confusion while mumbling the saga, noting that “nothing happened” to him when he discussed Senator Mark Kelly’s wife in the past tense.

“I’m Joe Biden, I’m Jill Biden’s husband. And Lord, thank You for introducing me to the Gila River Indian community here…Gila…nothing wrong with me. Gila River Indian Community for welcoming me today,” he said. said during a visit to the Indian Reservation on Friday.

“You know, I say this with all sincerity, for me this is the most meaningful thing that I have ever had the opportunity to do in my entire career the president of the United States“, he said. “It’s an honor, a real honor, to be in this special place on this special day.”

Biden invited Sen. Mark Kelly, R-Ariz., to say hello, then mentioned Kelly’s wife, the former Representative Gabrielle GiffordsD-AZ, in the past tense.

“It’s an honor, a real honor to be in this special place on this special day,” he added. “Thank you Senator Mark Kellya great friend who was also married to an incredible woman (Giffords) who was a friend of mine.”

While a former politician from Arizona was one of the victims mass shooting in 2011 that took place in Tucson, she survived a tragic event that claimed six lives.

After the assassination attempt, she decided to resign.

The 54-year-old is still alive and has been married to Senator Kelly since 2007.

Among Biden’s mistakes is that he confused world leaders with dead people. In February 2024, the president said he had spoken with German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who had actually died four years earlier.

White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre defended President Biden’s blunder with Chancellor Kohl, telling the press that it “happens to all of us and it’s normal.”

“As far as the names and what he was trying to say, a lot of people, elected officials, a lot of people, you know, can get things wrong sometimes, right?” she said.

“And so it happens. You know, it happens to all of us, and it’s a normal phenomenon,” claimed Jean-Pierre. “But I want to make sure we don’t lose sight of the overarching theme of what he’s trying to say about our leadership on the world stage.”
