Upper West Side father missing since Wednesday – NBC New York

A family in New York desperately begs their neighbors to keep an eye on their missing father.

Alberto Saldana, 69, has been missing from his Upper West Side home for more than two days and suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

A surveillance camera captured the moment he left his apartment at 70th Street and West End Avenue around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. He was last seen wearing an olive green t-shirt and blue pajama pants.

His family is asking the public: If you see Saldan, please approach him and call him by name, then escort him to the nearest police station.

According to his family, Saldana has run away before, but Wednesday was the first time he left home without his cell phone.

“He doesn’t like to ask for help. “He’s probably going to sit quietly somewhere, if he’s offered help, he’s going to say yes,” said Saldana’s son, David.

Every day the 69-year-old has been missing is another day he doesn’t take the daily medication he needs to treat his Alzheimer’s disease. His family says the longer he goes off medication, the more his memory deteriorates.

So far, his relatives have searched nearby hospitals, shelters and parks, even going up to the Bronx near Yankee Stadium because Saldana loves the team.

“I’m afraid he’s been out for two nights now without a sweater, without money and without food,” his stepson Jimmy Montero said Friday.
