Whitehall apartment complex fire: 5 injured, including one who jumped out of a window

Five people were injured in a fire that broke out Thursday night at a Whitehall apartment complex, the Whitehall Fire Department said.

Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the Colonial East Apartments in the 4200 Block of East Broad Street at 11:57 p.m. Thursday for a report of a fire with multiple injuries.

He said when Whitehall Battalion Chief Ray Cunningham arrived at the scene, he saw a person jump out of a window and land on the ground.

According to Cunningham, the fire was contained “relatively quickly” where it started in a second floor hallway of the building. Five people with injuries were transported from the scene, one person is in serious condition.

According to Cunningham, all five are expected to survive.

Cunningham said the cause of the fire has not been determined, and the Columbus Fire Department will be investigating.[email protected]
