Officials are asking for help identifying a body found near Postville on Tuesday

POSTVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for information as they work to identify a body that was found near Postville on Tuesday

Law enforcement officers were called to the area west of the intersection of Empire Drive and IA-18 around 1:03 p.m. Tuesday.

The body was found near the railway tracks in the area.

Law enforcement officials say the death occurred before August 28, 2024.

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office described the individual as a man with black hair, a beard and a missing front tooth. The man was wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers. He was also wearing a green jacket and pants, a gray t-shirt that was oversized. The blue jeans were 34×42 in size.

The man also had a black backpack with a “Milwaukee Valve” logo on it. The bag contained a large red aluminum bottle and officials also found a green boonie-style hat.

The bicycle found at the scene is described as a black Raleigh twenty-one speed hybrid bicycle with a small storage bag under the seat. The serial number on the tire pump attached to the bike is: U110K03617.

The sheriff said that the man could be homeless.

Foul play is not suspected, and officials said there is no danger to the public.

The body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
