Mobile man pleads not guilty to armed robbery on elementary school campus

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) – A Mobile man has pleaded not guilty to having a gun on the campus of Morningside Elementary School.

The incident happened on October 29.

Prosecutors alleged that 21-year-old Javonte Thomas threatened his girlfriend, who works at the school. Prosecutors said Thomas entered the campus at 2700 Greenbrier Drive South with a gun.

Thomas was booked into the Mobile County Jail on Tuesday on charges of carrying a deadly weapon on school grounds and second-degree harassment. He was released today.

Thomas’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for December.

Carrying a deadly weapon on school grounds is a Class C felony. If convicted, the sentence can be one to 10 years in prison.
