Noida: 22-year-old wanted gangster arrested after police chase leads to encounter

A meeting was held late on Wednesday (November 6) in downtown Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place near sector 58, as a result of which one of the suspects was injured and hospitalized.

According to reports, a chase between the Noida police and a known robber led to the incident on Wednesday night. The police seized a stolen motorcycle, a gun, five stolen mobile phones and ammunition from the suspect.

The incident took place around midnight when the police were conducting a routine security check on the instructions of Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissioner of Police. Police officers stationed near Rabbit Park in Sector 58 spotted a suspicious person approaching on a motorcycle.

The suspect, identified as Sonu alias Mota, tried to flee the scene even after the police signaled him to stop. Then the police started chasing this man, shortly after which the accused opened fire on them. This prompted a police response.

Mota was injured during the exchange and was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Authorities later confirmed that the suspect, who is only 22 years old, is a wanted criminal involved in several robberies and thefts in the area.

The police seized a stolen bicycle, five mobile phones, a pistol and several cartridges from Mota. The guns and all the cellphones are believed to have been stolen in previous robberies.

“We were conducting a routine check when we spotted a suspicious biker near Rabbit Park,” said Manish Mishra, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Noida.

“When we signaled him to stop, he fired at the police and the police responded in self-defense. During the exchange, the suspect was injured.”

Mota is currently in police custody. He is wanted in connection with six cases of robbery and theft in Noida. Police are also looking for his two accomplices, who managed to flee the scene during the incident on Wednesday night.

“This is a major breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the region,” ADCP Mishra added.

“Sonu alias Mota is a notorious robber with a criminal history. We are investigating further to identify his accomplices and recover any other stolen property.”
