Man pleads not guilty in fatal crash during police pursuit

A Montclair man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to murder and other charges for allegedly leading police on a chase that ended in a rollover crash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona that killed two men.

Eric Daniel Bolanos, now 31, was charged on Oct. 7 with two counts of murder and one count of fleeing from a vehicle while pursuing a law enforcement officer causing serious bodily injury and carrying a concealed weapon, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. weapons in the car. .

The charges include allegations that the defendant caused serious bodily injury and that the firearm was loaded but not registered to him, and that unused ammunition was in the defendant’s immediate possession, according to the district attorney’s office.

Pomona Police Department officers were pursuing a black BMW X6 on the freeway westbound around 4:45 p.m. Oct. 4 when the driver went the wrong way near Kellogg Drive, lost control and crashed into a curb, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia said. the City News Service reported.

The BMW rolled several times onto the northbound Chino Valley Freeway (71) overpass, Garcia said. The driver, identified as Bolanos, was quickly apprehended, police said.

Two occupants of the BMW were ejected during the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. They were later identified as Jose Caudillo, 38, and Joey Gomez, 34, who both died of blunt force trauma, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
