A married woman has filed a complaint at a Jaipur police station, alleging that her husband has been pressuring her for money and threatening to file for divorce if she does not comply. The woman even said that he also neglected his family’s medical needs and expenses.

The incident came to light when a woman approached the Jaipur Police Commissioner with a story of alleged cheating and manipulation. The woman, Pratima Navankur, originally from Maharashtra, came to Jaipur in 2020 to attend the event. However, the unexpected lockdown left her stranded. During this time, she found accommodation and joined a local gym, where she met Arif Inayat, the gym’s trainer, who she claims lured her into a web of deception.

According to Pratima, their relationship led to her conversion and subsequent marriage to Arif. She also claimed that Arif forced her into physical relations before their marriage, which was formalized on October 18, 2021.

Although Arif was instrumental in Pratima’s conversion, he did not ask her to change her name, a detail that Pratima later saw as a deliberate move. She believes it was part of a larger scheme that unfolded when Arif allegedly sold her inherited property in Mumbai at a discounted price and started extorting money from her.

Pratima is currently battling dengue fever and faces further challenges as her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter is also sick. She said Arif abandoned them, neglecting their medical needs and expenses.

Pratima also contacted Hawa Mahal local council member Bal Mukundacharya, confiding in him about her ordeal. The MLA accompanied her to Additional Commissioner Kunwar Rashtradeep, where she lodged a complaint. Pratima expressed her belief that Arif’s political influence had earlier prevented her from registering a complaint at the Shastri Nagar police station.

The police, after taking cognizance of Pratima’s complaint, have prioritized her safety and are currently investigating the matter. Arif is allegedly already married and has five children, which she did not know before the marriage.
