A Sturgis man has pleaded not guilty to charges related to the October standoff

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – A Sturgis man pleaded not guilty to charges related to an October standoff at the Meade County Courthouse on Wednesday.

Daniel O’Crotty, 43, is charged with stalking, simple assault, unlawful imprisonment and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The charges stem from an incident on Oct. 17 in which O’Crotty allegedly took his girlfriend’s car.

He is accused of returning drunk and refusing to hand over the keys.

According to court documents, O’Crotty became violent, preventing his girlfriend from escaping, even throwing her to the floor.

That led to a standoff with the Rapid City Pennington County Special Response Team.

The probable cause statement in the case says the girl claims she feared for her life during the ordeal.

O’Crotty’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 13.
