Chicago-based rapper and Grammy Award-winning artist Lil Dark, was arrested in South Florida on Thursday.

According to a USA TODAY report Friday, details of the federal indictment, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, have not been released. But that arrest comes after five people were indicted on federal murder charges after they allegedly attacked rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the killing of another Chicago rapper, King Von.

Lil Durk, whose official name is Durk Banks, began posting his music on YouTube and MySpace and gained a local following in Chicago. He rose to national prominence after signing with Def Jam in 2012. He left the label after five years, signing with Alamo Records in 2018.

His most famous tracks are “All My Life” with J. Cole, “Broadway Girls” with Morgan Wallen and his lead role on “Laugh Now Cry Later” by Drake.

Why was Lil Durk arrested in Florida?

According to a report by USA TODAY, federal authorities say Banks is accused of allegedly hiring someone to kill Quando Rondo in retaliation for the killing of fellow Chicagoan and rapper King Von.

“King Vaughn, born Davon Bennett, was a member of the hip-hop group and a friend and frequent collaborator of Banks,” USA TODAY reported.

In December 2020, Banks released the track “The Voice” in honor of Bennett, who died on November 6, 2020 at the age of 26 after a shooting outside an Atlanta nightclub. Bennett was shot and killed around 3:20 a.m. during an argument between two groups of men that “escalated into a shooting.”

More details about Banks’ arrest are still forthcoming, as USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Banks for comment.
