Germany raises visa quota for skilled Indian professionals to 90,000 per year; Check the details

Germany plans to significantly increase the number of visas issued to qualified Indian professionals, increasing the annual limit from 20,000 to 90,000. This four-fold increase is intended to strengthen economic and professional ties between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi made the announcement while addressing the 18th Asia Pacific German Business Conference on Friday. “We have drawn up a roadmap for Vixit Bharat for the next 25 years. I am glad that at this important time, the German Cabinet has released Focus on India… Germany has decided to increase the number of skilled Indian workforce visas from 20,000 to 90,000, this will give a new impetus to Germany’s development,” Modi said.

Germany’s new visa policy underscores the country’s growing interest in accessing India’s skilled workforce. With the increase in the limit from 20,000 to 90,000 visas per year, Indian professionals in various sectors such as information technology, engineering, healthcare, etc., will have enhanced opportunities to work in Germany.

The decision to increase the visa quota is seen as part of a broader initiative to strengthen economic and technological cooperation between India and Germany. Indian skilled workers have long been recognized for their expertise in critical fields such as technology, medicine and engineering, which are vital to Germany’s high-tech industries. The move is expected to add highly skilled professionals to Germany’s workforce, boost economic growth and help address the skills shortage.

Germany is currently experiencing demographic changes due to an aging population, which is leading to an increasing labor shortage in various sectors. By increasing visa restrictions for skilled workers from India, Germany aims to close this gap and ensure that its industry continues to thrive despite domestic challenges. The influx of skilled Indian professionals is expected to strengthen critical sectors such as IT, engineering and healthcare, which are essential to maintaining Germany’s status as a leading global economy.

The increased number of visas is expected to streamline the process for Indian professionals seeking employment in Germany, potentially simplifying immigration procedures and facilitating a smoother transition. This development is also likely to improve bilateral relations between India and Germany, opening doors for future collaboration in education, research and training.
