A homicide investigation is ongoing after a shooting in Pine Bluff that left one dead

After receiving a report of the shooting around 4:30 p.m. Monday, the Pine Bluff Police Department (PBPD) opened a homicide investigation.

Officers responded to Suzanne Apartments, 2123 South Blake Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, they found an unresponsive man on the ground on the north side of the apartment complex, PBPD said. He was later identified as 22-year-old Taron Jerel Dismuke.

Emergency medical personnel confirmed the death of Dismuk. The next of kin have been notified.

According to the report, the suspect appeared around 18:30 after the incident.

Leon Jermaine Johnson, 22, will be questioned and taken to the WC Dub Brassell Detention Center, where he has been charged with first degree murder pending further investigation.

“We understand the impact incidents like this have on our community,” said Lt. DeShawn Bennett, public information officer. “Our detectives are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and we are asking anyone with information about this case to come forward.”
