Charges have been filed in the accident that killed a 37-year-old mother

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – The Bradenton Police Department arrested 25-year-old Cesar Navarrete on a felony charge in connection with a fatal crash Saturday.

Navarrete was driving at an extremely high rate of speed on West Cortez Road approaching W. 43rd Street at approximately 10:40 p.m. Saturday, according to traffic homicide investigators. He ran a red light and crashed into a Chevrolet Equinox, splitting the vehicle in half.

The collision killed 37-year-old Sarah-Danielle Holmes, who was in the passenger seat of the Equinox.

Navarrete and a passenger in his Nissan Altima were taken to a hospital for treatment. Navarrete showed signs of impairment and a subsequent breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.289.

Cesar Navarrete has been charged with the following:

  • DUI Manslaughter, Second Degree Felony
  • Driving while suspended causing death or serious bodily injury, a felony of the third degree

Navarrete, who remains hospitalized, was arrested Sunday on an outstanding warrant out of Manatee County Court for driving with a suspended license that was unrelated to the case.
