Chimienti & Associates suffers data breach after hacked email account | Console and Associates, PC

On October 23, 2024, Chimienti & Associates (“Chimienti”) filed a data breach complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General after discovering that an unauthorized party had accessed an employee’s email account. In this notice, Chimienti explains that as a result of the incident, an unauthorized party gained access to sensitive consumer information, which includes their names, social security numbers, government identification information, dates of birth, health information and financial account information. After the investigation was completed, Chimienti began sending data breach letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.

What caused the Chimienti & Associates data leak?

The Chimienti & Associates data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Kimienti’s statement to the Massachusetts attorney general contains some important information about what led to the breach. Chimienti also posted a website message discussing the incident and the firm’s response.

According to these sources, on March 22, 2024, Chimienti detected unusual activity on the company’s email account. In response, Chimienti launched an investigation to learn more about the incident and to see if any information held by the company was compromised.

During this investigation, Chimienti confirmed that an unauthorized party accessed the company’s email account between March 22, 2024 and March 26, 2024. It was also found that the email account contained sensitive information belonging to certain individuals.

After learning that sensitive consumer data had been accessed by an unauthorized party, Chimienti & Associates reviewed the breached files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were affected. Chimienti completed this process on October 11, 2024. Although the information stolen depends on the individual, it can include your name, social security number, government identification information, date of birth, health information, and financial account information.

On October 23, 2024, Chimienti & Associates sent data breach letters to all those affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them has been compromised.
