Skye Perryman, president and chief executive officer of Democracy Forward, a legal nonprofit that works to defend democracy, knows all too well that election denial and misrepresentations have become rampant since the 2020 election. She also knows that elections in America are safe and said Forbes that the 2024 presidential election will be no different.

“There has never been a case or a major case of election fraud in the United States,” Perryman told ForbesWomen editor Maggie McGrath in the Forbes Newsroom section on Monday.

Perryman pointed to the Trump-backed Election Integrity Commission, which failed to find any evidence of widespread voter fraud. “In 2017, when former President Trump tried to file a case for electoral fraud because he was upset that he lost the popular vote even though he won the Electoral College,” she explained. “He created a commission known as the Kobach Voters Commission.”

That commission, Perryman said, “didn’t find any proven cases of voter fraud, because that’s not really something we should be worried about in 2024, or in 2027, or in 2020 in American life.”

Perryman also offered advice to Election Day voters who may see voter intimidation or misinformation at their polling places, with a link to her organization’s website. “You can contact existing voter advocacy hotlines and resources available across the country to help make your voice heard.”

Perryman did warn that former President Trump could declare victory before all the votes are counted and verified, noting that “it is unlikely that the final results will be known on election night, especially in very large districts across the country. Votes have to be counted and it takes some time to count those votes, especially when the polls are open until the evening.”
