Landslide concerns spur vote to repair road in Hartford

HARTFORD, Vermont (WCAX) – Voters in Hartford will decide on Election Day whether to make a multimillion-dollar road investment near downtown White River Junction.

The portion of Fairview Terrace where it meets Gates Street has been a major landslide concern in recent years.

It is now closed to traffic.

Voters will decide Tuesday whether to approve a $4.1 million bond to pay for necessary repairs to reopen the one-way road leading into downtown White River Junction.

“The question now is how do we reopen that road and under what conditions, but more importantly how do we stabilize the slope so that we don’t have any more landslides that could endanger some of the structures in the area,” the Hartford city manager said John Haverstock. .

If approved, the average taxpayer on a $250,000 home would likely see an increase of about $60 over the life of the credit.
