WEST PALM BEACH — 39-year-old man related to the famous Fanjul sugar family Florida Crystals pleaded guilty to two felonies related to the January incident at his Palm Beach home and received four years of probation.

On Monday, Nov. 4, Oleksandr Nicholas Fanjul pleaded guilty to petit larceny and felony charges related to his Jan. 29 arrest after a reported physical altercation with a woman the night before.

District Judge James Nutt did not rule on the felony charge and ordered Fanjul to serve four years and one year of probation for those crimes. Fanjul will be eligible for early termination of probation if he has no new violations of the law within three years.

Fanjul, who goes by Nico, is the eldest son of Alexander Fanjul Sr., director and senior vice president of Florida Crystals. The West Palm BeachThe company is one of the largest sugar producers in the southeastern United States

“We thank all parties for this decision. Nico has made it clear that he has focused and will continue to focus on self-improvement and making a positive impact in his community,” read a statement released by the younger Fanjul’s spokesperson.

The woman told police that Fanjul was angry about the seating arrangement at the Palm Beach restaurant

The incident happened at Fanjul’s home on El Dorado Lane, south of the Palm Beach Country Club on the northern tip of the island, on the night of January 28. Palm Beach police responded to a noise complaint there and reportedly heard a woman scream. They noticed that the front gate and door were open.

The officer went to the door and saw Fanjul inside, standing over the woman, who was curled up in a fetal position, Fanjul’s arrest report said. The woman told Officer Fanjul about the physical attack on her, the report said.

The Palm Beach Post did not release the woman’s name. The arrest report states that she and Fanjul were dating.

The woman told police that she and Fanjul had known each other for several months and were having dinner that night at the Flagler Steakhouse on South County Road when Fanjul became upset because he was sitting next to a gay couple.

The woman said Fanjul expressed his frustration throughout the dinner, becoming increasingly angry. After the meal, the couple returned to Fanjul’s home, where Fanjul continued to talk about his frustrations with the restaurant, police said.

The woman said she and Fanjul were in his yard when she asked him to drop the subject. She claimed Fanjul then punched her in the face. She told police he repeatedly kneed her in the face, forcibly took her purse and cell phone and dragged her into the house to prevent her from escaping or calling for help.
