Gurgaon Police Crackdown on Drunk Driving: Over 2,000 Fines Issued in October |

Police have stepped up measures against drunk driving, fined more than 2,000 in Gurgaon last month

Gurgaon: More than 2,000 drivers, including 17 women, were fined for drunken driving in the city in October. The traffic police conducted anti-drunken driving drives mostly on weekends in Sector 29, Cyber ​​Hub, Udyog Vihar, 32 Milestone, Golf Course Road and areas near new malls and restaurants along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR).
The traffic police reported that they fined an average of 68 people every day in October. In addition to issuing fines, authorities also confiscated two vehicles during the trip.
Traffic chief Virender Vij said special police teams were formed for the drive and deployed at hotspots known for higher crime rates. According to him, roadblocks were set up and thorough inspections were carried out to identify violators.
According to law enforcement officers, the main purpose of this action was not only punitive, but also preventive. “By ensuring strict enforcement of traffic rules, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility among drivers and ensure safer roads for all. The success of the campaign is measured not only by the number of challenges issued, but also by the increased awareness of the danger it has created. driving a car while intoxicated,” added the DKP.
The fine for an offense under the amended Motor Vehicles Act is Rs 10,000 and the offender’s driving license can also be suspended for three months. In 2023, 5,181 drivers were charged with driving while intoxicated. In the current year, about 13,800 petitions were issued for the offense committed. The traffic police also announced that regular night checkpoints will continue to be a key element of their enforcement strategy.
