Athletics removed “Oakland” from social networks

Athletics removed “Oakland” from social networks

With the 2024 MLB season officially in the rearview mirror, it was only a matter of time before the Oakland A’s dropped the “Oakland” from their name. The Athletics will play in West Sacramento at Sutter Health Park next season, with plans to spend at least three seasons there until they can sort out and possibly even build a field to play in Las Vegas by the 2028 season.

And also unveiled their new main logo, which is now green letters. The previous logo was a circle with the letters “A” in the middle, “Oakland” at the top and “Athletics” at the bottom.

The team’s primary logo will remain unchanged from the athletics green font.

A couple of weeks ago it was also reported that A will play on grassrather than turf as expected when they move to Sacramento for the 2025 season. The heat in Sacramento in the summer combined with the turf caused many concerns for the players, and this was a concession that was agreed upon. The question is how they will maintain the grass while the Athletics and Sacramento River Cats play on the field for a full season, but that will be determined as the season progresses.

The Athletics also announced that the approved designation for scoring errors on television and in the schedule will be “ATH,” which we’ve seen on other teams’ schedules over the past few months.

One odd stumbling block is that the team won’t have a city tag that we know of, even though Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive bailed out the team with a free place to play for several seasons. Ranadive’s move north is seen as a play to show that California’s capital would be a great place for a Major League Baseball club when the league expands, and yet the city will not be advertised in any way, on jerseys or otherwise.

The Athletics will open the 2025 season on the road against the Seattle Mariners on March 27 and play their first home game in Sacramento on March 31 against the Chicago Cubs.
