Fraudsters reinforce their parliamentary scam with a fake arrest warrant

Fraudsters reinforce their parliamentary scam with a fake arrest warrant

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has warned of another scare scam.

We know that scams are getting more and more sophisticated every day and we don’t want you to fall for this new twist on “deputy scams” or “jury scams”.

This is a fake arrest warrant. A fake deputy uses a fake arrest warrant to threaten targets with false criminal charges.

The one we saw was for failure to appear in jury trial.

The sheriff’s office says someone received it as a text message, which is definitely a red flag (the sheriff’s office won’t send you a notice that an arrest is imminent). Be alert if it doesn’t come to you via email or you see it on social media.

In this case, the arrest document makes the fraud more frightening — even plausible.

It is also signed by the judge, which is not a real signature.

You will never be contacted in this way about a real arrest warrant, nor will you ever be asked to pay money – that is a matter for the courts – and will never be threatened to make you appear.

The fake arrest warrant has some errors (the word “Brougham County” being the most obvious) and the document is out of date, but it can be a little scary if you get one and you’re too preoccupied to notice some of these things.

If you are concerned or have questions about obtaining an arrest warrant this way, call the sheriff’s office.

Reporting things like this or any scam helps make sure you or someone else doesn’t fall victim.
