Richard Allen’s trial will continue into the 4th week

Defenders of Trial of Richard Allen at Delphi continue their case Monday at the Carroll County Courthouse.

Allen, 52, is accused of murdering two teenagers who went missing on February 13, 2017 and were found dead the next day. He was arrested in 2022 and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of kidnapping resulting in death Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” Herman.

On Saturday, jurors watched a silent video of Richard Allen during his stay at Westville Correctional Facility. While they watched, the screen was turned away from members of the public and the media. His lawyers said they wanted to withhold the video out of respect for Allen’s dignity, and Special Judge Frances Gall agreed. Jurors seemed visibly confused by the footage.

Jurors also heard from Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter on Saturday about the investigation into the deaths of Libby and Abby. Journalists from Indianapolis Star and Lafayette Journal & Courier continue to cover the case as it moves through the court system.

This story will be updated throughout the day.
