Floods in Valencia: Spanish rescuers search underground parking lots

Spanish rescuers have focused their search for missing people in underground garages and a multi-storey car park after last week’s devastating floods in Valencia.

The death toll now stands at 217 after a year’s worth of rain hit parts of the region last week.

A car park in the nearby town of Aldayah, capable of holding thousands of cars, has become the focus of the search, but rescue teams have reportedly yet to find any bodies.

It comes after Spain’s National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) declared torrential rain for parts of the northeastern region of Catalonia and its capital, Barcelona, suffered flooding on Monday morning.
