Homicide investigation underway after SE DC shooting leaves 1 dead, another injured

A shooting in southeast D.C. left one person dead and another injured late Sunday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Shortly after 10 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Savannah Terrace, Southeast, to reports of gunshots, according to an MPD spokesman.

Officers found the man conscious and breathing and transported him to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Minutes later, police said a second man was found unconscious and not breathing in the 3300 block of 22nd Street Southeast.

The second victim was taken to the district hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities initially said the second victim’s wound was likely a stab wound, but detectives determined the victim suffered a gunshot wound and that both men were wounded in the Savannah Terrace shooting.

As of Monday morning, MPD was not looking for any suspects, but said the homicide was under investigation.
