Thailand calls for end to sending migrant workers to Israeli war zone after latest deaths

The deaths of four more Thai workers in a rocket attack near Israel’s border with Lebanon prompted rare criticism from Thai authorities in Tel Aviv and renewed calls to suspend migrant workers in an area where open conflict remains an extreme danger.

Four workers were killed and a fifth injured when a rocket attack believed to be from Lebanon hit the town of Metula last Friday, Thai authorities said.

These deaths bring the number of Thais killed since last October to 50.

Forty-six Thais were among 1,200 people killed when Hamas militants attacked Israeli cities.

A further 30 Thai nationals were taken hostage back to Gaza, with six believed to still be in captivity. However, their safety remains uncertain in the area, which Israel obliterated after the October 7 attack.

The war has claimed the lives of approximately 43,000 Palestinians and nearly 3,000 in Lebanon.
