A man is accused of assault with a knife after breaking into a house | News

According to a magistrate’s complaint filed in the Supreme Court, police were called to Igo’s home at 2:41 a.m. Sunday to find two men arguing with each other on a third-floor balcony.

A woman at the scene told police that her ex-boyfriend, Beferi Eram, 26, broke into her home, saw another man on the balcony and lunged at him with a knife. According to the complaint, the man resisted and was able to fight off Eram before police arrived.

Eram was charged Monday with second-degree burglary and third-degree aggravated assault.

Police said the front door to the home appeared to have been kicked in, the door jamb and lock mechanism were broken, and there were pieces of wood on the floor.

The man and woman told police they heard a noise in the middle of the night, and the man told the woman to hide in the bedroom and call police while he investigated. As he stood on the balcony, he heard a loud bang as the front door opened and Eram entered the home, went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and then lunged at him, trying to stab him, the complaint said.

At some point, Eram dropped the knife and the police found it on the grass below. The woman told police that she had not had a relationship with Eram for over a year, and he was not allowed in her home without her permission.

The man told police he had never met Eram before.
