In India, a bus accident in Uttarakhand killed 36 people

The death toll in a bus accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora district has risen to 36. The 45-seater bus, which was traveling from Pauri in Garhwal to Ramnagar in Kumaon, veered off the road and crashed into a 200-meter-long road, according to local authorities. deep gorge in Marchula this morning.

Although many passengers died on the spot, at least nine succumbed to their injuries after being taken to hospital. The three injured were airlifted to AIIMS for further treatment.

The bus, which is operated by the Garhwal Auto Owners Union, is now under investigation as officials work to determine the cause of the tragedy. Authorities from Almora and Ramnagar are present at the spot.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his grief over the tragic accident and directed the district administration to speed up rescue and relief operations. “Received the very sad news of the loss of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place in Marchul, Almora district. The district administration has been instructed to quickly conduct relief and rescue operations,” he shared on X.

The Chief Minister further directed the local administration and SDRF teams to immediately shift the injured to the nearest medical centers and airlift those in critical condition if necessary. He also ordered the suspension of Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials in the area.

As part of the government’s response, the chief minister announced a compensation of INR 400,000 for the families of the dead and INR 100,000 for the injured. A judicial investigation has also been ordered into the accident.
