Two people have been arrested after fleeing from Utah State Police across the state line into Wyoming

DAGGETT COUNTY, UT. A man and a woman are in the Uintah County Jail in Wyoming after Utah law enforcement began a pursuit across the state line.

On Friday, a Daggett County sheriff’s deputy said he spotted the suspects’ truck, which he recognized during a previous traffic stop. He said the pickup — a Chevrolet Silverado — had a fake license plate and he pulled them over on State Route 43 in Manila.

The driver, 53-year-old Garth Stringer, did not answer questions or get out of the car when asked. The deputy told Stringer he was being pulled over and they were calling a tow truck to retrieve his vehicle.

At that point, Stringer allegedly said, “We’re not going to do this again,” and drove off, which began the pursuit.

Sheriff Eric Bailey, who was on the scene assisting with the traffic stop, joined deputies as they followed Stringer into Wyoming. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office was able to stop Stringer’s truck with a hairpin on Wyoming Highway 414.

A gun, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the car. The passenger, Brittany Stephenson, 41, had a warrant out of Kentucky for violating a protective order and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Both Stringer and Stevenson were booked into the Uintah County Jail.
