Migori: A boy from a humble family who got C+ in KCSE pleads for help to join campus

John Otieno found himself at home after delaying his university entrance because his single mother was unable to raise the required fees.

He scored a C+ average in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Talking to TUKO.co.keOtieno’s guardian, Titus Bita, stated that Otieno was very needy familyand the mother survives by manual labor, working in the people’s household to make ends meet.

“Father died; mother does odd jobs such as working on the farm to buy food. The extended family also lives from hand to mouth, so no one inside can help pay for his fees,” he said.

What is the fee for Theology at Baraton University?

According to Bita, Otieno is expected to report in January 2024 the full amount required for his admission.

He has been offered a place for a Bachelor of Divinity degree, a course that costs KSH 134,480 including tuition, administration and boarding fees per trimester.

He will also have to pay CUE, caution money and one-time orientation fees of KSH 5,000.

Bita said they plan to reach out to local politicians, friends and well-meaning Kenyans to help Otieno realize his dream.

“My pockets aren’t that deep either, but I’ll do whatever it takes to see that smart boy go to school,” he said.

A West Pokot girl who missed out on university is getting help

other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a girl with a disability from West Pokot who failed to enter university got help after the government said it would review her application.

Alpina Chepkorir got a C+, but when others entered university, she stayed at home because of lack of fees.

Like many students from low-income families, Chepkorir applied for funding from the University Education loan debt, but her application was allegedly rejected.
