Evil stepfather gave gun to stepson and told him to ‘do what he had to do’ in brutal murder of New York teenager

Prosecutors say a stepfather allegedly gave his stepson a gun and told him to “do what he had to do” in the botched killing of his nephew that left an innocent teenager dead in Westchester County.

The evil stepfather, Phillip Ferrill, 48, is accused of giving his 22-year-old stepson, Tyrese Coghill, a gun before the young man fatally shot Zairy Fernandez while shooting another man in Mount Vernon last year. This is reported by Iohud.com.

“Had this defendant provided this gun, Zair Fernandez would be alive today,” Assistant District Attorney Adrian Murphy said in Westchester County Court on Friday, the newspaper reported.

Coghill reportedly pleaded guilty to a charge of murder in cooperation with Ferrill, who now faces a murder charge of his own.

Prosecutors said the fatal collision happened last March when Coghill was helping Ferrill move into an apartment in Yonkers.

They said a group of three teenagers, including Fernandez and Ferrill’s nephew, approached Coghill on the street brandishing a knife and a gun.

That’s when Ferril appeared and got into a loud argument with his nephew, who he accused of stealing from him in the past, Murphy told the court.

After the fight ended, Ferrill allegedly took a 9mm semi-automatic handgun from a box in his apartment, gave it to his stepson and told him to “do what he had to do,” meaning he had to blow his nephew away. , officials claimed.

Coghill found the teenagers outside and opened fire on the nephew, but Fernandez was hit, according to the report.

The gun was allegedly found later in an oven in Ferrill’s apartment, and Murphy told the court that video footage would show him retrieving it from his stepson’s girlfriend’s apartment.

Ferrell is charged with second-degree murder, second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence.
