A man was hospitalized in a serious condition after he was trapped under a tractor in a creek after a bridge collapsed in Woodstock on Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened just after 3:00 p.m. in the 3200 block of N. Route 47.

According to the Woodstock Fire and Rescue District, crews initially responded to a water rescue, but were soon told a man was under a tractor after a bridge collapsed on the property.

The trapped man was behind the property, partially submerged in the stream, but conscious. He was trapped for more than 30 minutes before he was found, officials said.

Firefighters raised the tractor to free the man and transferred him to an ambulance.

He was then taken to the boarding area at Northwood High School before being flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, officials said.

The man suffered serious injuries from falling and being crushed, as well as severe hypothermia due to exposure to water.

Fluids were leaking from the tractor during the rescue operation, prompting a HAZMAT crew to respond to the scene. Absorbent materials were also placed in the creek to prevent any liquid from dispersing into the water.

The tractor was removed from the stream at 6:00 p.m., and an emergency crew went to the scene.
