A 10-month-old baby has been released from the hospital after the mother’s boyfriend hugged the child, authorities say

NEWTON COUNTY, MO (KY3/Gray News ) – A 10-month-old baby has been released from the hospital after fighting for his life after his mother’s boyfriend admitted to “hugging him,” authorities said.

Waylon’s family says the injuries he suffered will have a lasting impact on his life.

“He was actually re-adjusted to a newborn,” said his dad, Tyler Burbridge.

Waylon spent about a month and a half in the hospital in serious condition.

In September, authorities say Waylon was wearing a baby jumper by his mother, who stepped back to go to the bathroom.

Her boyfriend at the time, Jordan Boggess, picked Waylon up and tossed him into the air, but missed the second throw. Boggess told authorities that he then “hug” Waylon tightly until he stopped crying.

“He actually took my son’s life. He took away my son’s future. You don’t throw a baby up in the air,” Burbridge said.

Waylon’s family says his life has changed forever.

“At the moment, as far as we know, he can’t see. He can’t sit. He barely raises his head. He’s going to have to do a lot of physical therapy,” Burbridge said.

Waylon’s mother, Bessie McCamish, said Waylon’s recovery is the priority.

Boggess is charged with child abuse and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
