Man killed, 1 injured in crash involving deer on I-65 in Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a deer in Warren County early Sunday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:57 a.m. when KSP Post 3 responded to a two-vehicle injury crash on Interstate 65 around mile marker 25.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 26-year-old Alex Bailey of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was northbound when a deer crossed the roadway. Bailey responded by slamming on the brakes before eventually colliding with the deer.

The Equinox was then rear-ended by a Ford motorhome driven by 54-year-old Bruce Hutchins of Radcliffe, Kentucky.

The Equinox pulled onto the right side of the road before coming to rest on a dirt embankment. The motorhome came to rest on the inside guardrail in the left emergency lane.

Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene by KSP at the Warren County Coroner’s Office. Hutchins was taken to a local medical center with unknown injuries.

Bowling Green Fire, MED-COM EMS and the Warren County Coroner’s Office assisted KSP at the scene.

The investigation is currently ongoing, led by police officer Grant Robertson.
