Lagos Government Seals Charterhouse Property in Eti-Osa for Illegal Reclamation of Wetlands

The Lagos State Government has sealed the property of Messrs Charterhouse in Ogombo area of ​​Eti Osa Local Government Area over alleged illegal wetland reclamation and unauthorized construction activities.

The property was cordoned off on Saturday by law enforcement agencies from the Department of Wetlands and Conservation of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known on his official X account on Sunday.

“Enforcement operatives from the Department of Wetlands and Conservation of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources have sealed the property of Mr. Charterhouse around Ogombo in Eti-Osa LG for illegal wetland restoration and construction without the necessary drainage clearance and wetland permit land”, Wahab’s post was read in part.

The commissioner explained that the ministry had previously issued a stop-work order on August 15 for Charterhouse and nearby properties due to concerns about environmental degradation, including the loss of wetlands and biodiversity, as well as the disruption of natural buffer zones important for flood prevention. and water retention.

Wahab also noted that despite the order, construction continued without required drainage clearance and wetlands permits, leading to enforcement actions.
