Two sisters attack ex-DSP over signal dispute in east Delhi, nabbed after chase

Two knife-wielding sisters allegedly barged into the house of a former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and attacked him and his family following a dispute over signals in east Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave area, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening after former DSP Ashok Sharma, who is a cancer patient, asked the two sisters to refrain from honking their car horns the day before, a police officer said, adding that Sharma escaped with minor injuries in the attack.

According to the officer, both Sharma and two sisters — Chhavi Jain (21) and Bhavya Jain (23) — are residents of the Anekant Apartments society.

High drama ensued when the police were called after two women allegedly reacted aggressively. The suspects, who tried to flee in their car, were later apprehended after a chase, police said.

“On Saturday, both sisters allegedly forced their way into Sharma’s house and stabbed him and his family, creating a ruckus that drew neighbors to the scene. Some residents who tried to intervene also sustained minor injuries,” the officer said.

Police said that after the confrontation, the sisters tried to flee in their car and allegedly hit the scooter driver and dragged him several meters, injuring one of the police officers.

“They (the sisters) were chased and detained from Noida. We have started further investigation into the matter,” the officer said.

Four FIRs have been registered at the New Ashok Nagar police station against the two accused based on complaints lodged by former DSP Sharma, his daughter Reena, head constable Sunil and scooterist Joginder, police said.

The two sisters were prosecuted under various sections of the BNS, including 109(2) (attempt to murder), 115 (intentionally causing bodily harm), 126(2) (unlawful restraint), 221 (obstructing a public servant in the performance of public functions) , and 132 (assault or use of criminal force against a public servant), the officer said.

Sources said the two sisters have a history of confrontational behavior, including an alleged incident in which they took a security guard hostage several months ago.

The two sisters were previously convicted in September in a case in which NBW proceedings are pending against them.

Investigations in all the cases are underway at ASR Kalyanpur, police said.
