A technician was feared dead after he was thrown into the Yamuna in a high-speed accident on Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj Bridge

A 35-year-old technical professional is presumed dead after he was thrown into the Yamuna river in a high-speed collision at the Kalindi Kunj Bridge in New Delhi on Friday night. His wife and 10-month-old daughter were injured in the incident, police said on Sunday.

According to an Indian Express report, police said Mohammad Shami from Haldwan in Uttarakhand was returning with his family to Abul Fazal enclave near Shaheen Bagh after visiting relatives in Noida when a speeding car rammed into their motorcycle from behind around 8:30 pm.

The collision sent Shami crashing over the bridge railing into the river, while his wife, 30-year-old Arshi Rafiq, and their daughter suffered spinal and leg fractures respectively. They are currently undergoing treatment.

A search operation involving police, divers and the boat club’s rescue team has been underway since Friday evening to find Shami, a police officer said, adding that the driver of the car may have been under the influence of alcohol.

“An FIR under sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the driver of the car at Kalindi Kunj police station. His identity has been established and measures are being taken to arrest him,” the policeman added.

A man in Mumbai died after jumping from the Atal Setu Bridge

In another incident, a 38-year-old engineer from Mumbai jumped from the Atal Setu Bridge on Wednesday afternoon (July 24). The entire incident was caught on CCTV where a man was seen stopping his Tata Nexon on the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link and attempted suicide by climbing a railing and jumping to his death.

The man was identified as K. Srinivas, an engineer and a resident of Dombivili, news agency PTI reported.

His family members claimed that he was struggling to make ends meet. They suspect that the reason for his sudden step was financial problems, the report says. The day before, around 11:30 p.m., he left his apartment.
