A taxi driver was arrested for the alleged murder of a 24-year-old nursing student

This is reported by Mwebantu the dead student has been identified as 24-year-old Silvia Nangela.

The arrest follows a disturbing incident that took place in the early hours of the morning, leaving the community in shock.

According to Deputy Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, the tragedy began when Nanjela and a friend hailed a taxi around 2am in the Twin Palms area.

The friend got out of the vehicle at Kamwal and Nanjela continued alone to her destination at Kamwal, South.

Arriving at her house, she asked the driver to stop at her gate.

When she was about to pay, the driver allegedly attacked her by hitting her on the head with an empty bottle.

Despite Nanjela calling for help, the driver started the car and tried to drive away with her inside.

Nanjela continued to struggle, but the driver reportedly attacked her again with another bottle.

Trying to escape, she became entangled in a safety belt, as a result of which the driver lost control and drove into a drainage ditch.

A resident nearby, hearing the commotion, rushed to help.

The terrified driver took Nangela’s purse and fled the scene, leaving his Toyota Vitz with the keys still in the ignition.

Shortly after, the police arrived at the scene and found Nanjela with severe head injuries.

She was rushed to the university teaching hospital, where she was admitted, but unfortunately died of her injuries three days later.

After conducting investigative actions, law enforcement officers detained the suspect, who is currently in custody.

The vehicle has been impounded and the suspect will soon appear in court on charges of brutally murdering a young nursing student.
