Formula 1 LIVE: Brazilian Grand Prix postponed due to Lewis Hamilton’s appeal | F1 | sport

Qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix was moved to Sunday in an unlikely event, but heavy rain postponed the event and canceled Saturday’s evening session.

The qualifying session was due to start at 18:00 UK time on Saturday, but after a series of delays at 13:45 it was finally decided that the track was too wet and conditions would not improve.

A joint statement from governing body FIA and Formula 1 read: “The decision was taken not to continue with qualifying due to poor visibility, standing water on the track and poor light.

“Safety is always a primary consideration in these circumstances and while as much time as possible was given to allow conditions to improve, they unfortunately did not.”

In return Lando Norris was forced to wait as he tried to crash Max Verstappenleads the Drivers’ Championship. The Red Bull the man leads by 44 points.

However, that advantage was reduced when Norris won the sprint race in Sao Paulo, albeit with an almighty helping hand from his team-mate Oscar Piastre.
