Kemi Badenoch can change the structure of the Tories in Wales

“Cammy is very open to the calls I’ve made as head of the Welsh Conservatives group in the Senedd about what the structure of the party in Wales looks like and accountability,” he said.

“Those discussions will continue with Kemi as she settles into the role, and I look forward to that.”

The current leader of the Senedd, Andrew RT Davies, publicly endorsed Jerrick, writing in the Telegraph that he had “a clear plan for how we restore faith in British politics” and that “the public are fed up with apolitical politicians who talk good game, but nothing to back it up.”

Jenrick accused Badenoch during the leadership contest of “disrespecting” members of the Conservative Party because he did not offer a clear policy.

Mr Davies congratulated Badenoch on becoming leader and called on his party to “support” her.

“On behalf of the Welsh Conservatives, I would like to congratulate Camie on becoming leader of our party and wish her every success in leading His Majesty’s Opposition,” he said.

“Both candidates have put forward a positive vision for our country and now that the contest is over, it’s time to come together and support Cammy to bring to justice this terrible Labor government that has already done so much damage to Wales in such a short space of time. in power in London.

“It is vital for Wales and the UK that we end Labor rule at both ends of the M4 and I look forward to working with Cammy to make that happen.”

Asked whether it was wise for Mr Davies, as leader of the Senedd group, to publicly back either candidate, Mr Kurtz said it was “a decision for Andrew”.

“I know what Andrew will do now is support Cammy Badenoch and unite the party here in Wales for our new leader as we look forward to the Senate elections in 2026,” he said.

Speaking after the leadership results were announced on Saturday morning, Badenoch said her mission to rebuild the party would include all members of the Conservative Party across the UK.

“This tremendous work begins today,” she said.

“This will aim to involve all our colleagues in Parliament, the Scottish Parliament, the Sened, our friends in Northern Ireland, as well as councilors and party members.”
