Orange County Sheriff’s Office Releases Body Camera Video Of Deputy Shooting

ORLANDO, Florida – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance footage Thursday of a deputy-involved shooting that happened last month.

According to the sheriff’s office, a woman called 911 around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 to report that her boyfriend, a man in his 40s, was armed with a knife and was threatening to kill himself.

“Deputies arrived at the InTown Suites at 1951 Central Florida Parkway minutes later and encountered a male with a knife,” OCSO said in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Before the shooting, the woman can be heard pleading with the deputies not to shoot the man.

“Don’t hurt him, don’t hurt him. Please don’t do this,” the woman can be heard saying as the deputy pointed his gun at the man standing in the doorway of the motel.

“Don’t do it,” one deputy can be heard saying. “Drop the knife, man. We will help you.”

“We just wanna talk man. There is no problem with you,” says another deputy.

But the sheriff’s office said deputies were forced to shoot after a man lunged at them with a knife.

“The man went back to his room and our deputies were in the parking lot trying to get him to come out without the knife so they could get him the help he needed. About 20 minutes later, the man came out, holding a knife above his head, and ran to our deputies, who fired a service weapon, hitting the man,” the OCSO said in a statement.

Deputies treated the man until the fire department arrived at the scene and transported him to a hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

“The video is being released in accordance with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s critical incident video release policy,” OCSO said in a statement. “The shooting remains under investigation.”
