A Dorchester man has been charged with arson

Milford police have arrested a Dorchester man and charged him with setting a brush fire that damaged a lot of town property Saturday, officials said. firefighters continued to extinguish the fire across Massachusetts amid ongoing drought.

Devonte Johnson, 28, faces charges of setting fire to land, trees, timber or produce; starting a fire on someone else’s land; bonfire in the open air; hooliganism; and disturbing the peace, Milford police said in a statement. It was not known Saturday if Johnson had hired an attorney to represent him.

Milford authorities received a 911 call at 8:48 a.m. reporting a fire in the woods at 296 West St., according to the statement. and a man, later identified as Johnson, who allegedly fled the scene.

Police quickly located Johnson, who allegedly led them on a short chase before being apprehended, police said.

Johnson was booked into the Worcester County Jail on $1,500 bond and is awaiting arraignment. Police have not released details of the planned charges.
