A handcuffed man was loaded into an ambulance on Park Avenue

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK. At least a dozen law enforcement officers were investigating on Park Avenue Friday night.

It happened on Somerset and Park, which runs between Berkeley Street and Culver Road.

A witness told News10NBC that the man ran into the store, pursued by police, and began biting the officers as he tried to fight them off. Our news saw a handcuffed man being placed on a gurney and placed in an ambulance.

Rochester police said they located a newly registered stolen vehicle on Park Avenue near Berkeley Street at approximately 5:55 p.m. and chased the suspect, taking him into custody “after a brief use of force.” Police say the suspect, a 29-year-old Rochester man, bit two officers. The suspect was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of the officers was also assisted.

A witness named Louie told News10NBC he was getting a haircut when the suspect ran into the barber shop, threw the bag on the ground and dove under the window. Louie says the suspect was knocking things off the shelves and biting the officers’ arms hard. that’s when he said he stepped in and pinned him down to try to help the officers.

In addition to the vehicle theft charges, the suspect will face charges of assaulting police officers and several outstanding warrants, police said.
