Two bridges will be consecrated

Two bridge dedication ceremonies are scheduled to be held in Cumbria County over the next few days.

On Saturday, the stretch of Galleria Drive/State Route 3031 over US Route 219 in Richland Township will be dedicated as the PFC Paul O. Malzi and PFC Harry R. Malzi Memorial Bridge.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Richland American Legion Post 849, 390 Oakridge Drive.

Paul Malzi was killed during offensive operations on the River Seille in an attempt to take the city of Rouen, France. His brother, Harry Maltzi, died on November 25, 1945, after being fatally injured in an automobile accident in Weisenkirchen, Austria.

Then, on Monday, State Route 1021 above Glendale Lake in White Township will be designated as CPL Reid Rex Ross 3 BN 26 Marine Reg. Memorial bridge.

The ceremony is due to take place at 1pm at the Pickerel Pond Pavilion (Pavilion 1) at Prince Gallicin Park in Flinton.

Ross, a Flinton native, was killed south of Da Nang, Vietnam, on Dec. 4, 1968, while returning fire to protect his fellow Marines during Operation Mid River.
