“The way he jumps, we can go back to two miles” – Found A Fifty – A star turn by another quad, Gordon Elliott

“The way he jumps, we can go back to two miles” – Found A Fifty – A star turn by another quad, Gordon Elliott

He was unlucky to be in the same novice division as Gaelic Warrior last year, but if this performance in the Grade 2 Bottlegreen Chase is anything to go by, Found fifty will be a force in the senior class this season.

With no runs since the spring, jockey Sam Ewing was able to keep a bit up his sleeve and he found more than enough from the final fence to score by two and a quarter lengths.

To win like this, throwing a stone to Galway Plate winner Pinkerton, who won in a sporting form, was a great achievement and it was recognized by the trainer Gordon Elliott.

He said: “It was a good performance to rock the other horse and he got a good kick.

“I guess we’ll have to look at races like Durkan, but that’s the level he and I are at. He settles better and the way he jumps, we can go back to two miles. He is a good horse.”

Coolio is too hot for rivals

The race may have been weak, but the performance of the champion Bumper, who took second place Romeo Coolio in his first 2m hurdles is the type to whet the appetite for the upcoming season.

Five-year-old Kaif Tara, now a striking individual, jumped very well in the race and went straight from second to last to beat this lesser rival by more than 13 lengths. The next target for this very exciting horse is the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle.

Elliott said: “He’s a good horse and very fast and probably a real two miler. Royal Bond seems to be a race for him.”

Elliott won his second quadruple in two days, though it fell short of his 11 winners in two days of that meeting in 2023.

Claimant Carl Millar won a valuable 2m barrier at this meeting 12 months ago on Magic Tricks and he again used his 7lb to advantage when landing this year at the Robcourt-owned track. Cala Conti.

The stable then landed their second bumper in two days with Higginstown A classic streamwhich was driven by Harry Swan.

Fahy is back in fashion

It’s been a while since the trainer got 1st grade Pat Fahey had much to cheer about, losing good hurdles rookie prospect Sporting Glory to Gordon Elliott – the last blow, but he was buoyed by the win in the game History of fashion in a 3m handicap chase under Harry Sexton.

Crashed in three of his last five starts, recent form has not been very encouraging, but the 40-1 shot earned him his only previous success at this track and distance, and he ran well in this race last year before finishing second in Porterstown Chase at Fairyhouse. Looks like he’s in the same race again.

Fahey said: “We want to put him in the big underdogs, so we want him to go up in the ratings. We just need him to do well and he wants to get that ground. Hopefully he’ll get up enough to run at Porterstown.”

Fahy summed up his recent luck: “I had a novice chase horse at Fairyhouse on Tuesday, for horses rated 0-109. I was delighted with myself, he was the third in the race from the list and got into such a race. But then they changed the conditions of the race in two hours.

“You try with a small yard; it is hard enough, and without such things.’
