2 bodies found in Lenexa home after hours-long standoff; the suspect is in custody

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lenexa police say they found two adults dead inside a home after an hours-long standoff Friday into Saturday morning.

Police were called to the 7900 block of Hallett around 8:20 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of shots fired from a home in the area.

Police managed to contact someone in the house by phone, but the man refused to cooperate. Police called in additional resources after two hours of unsuccessful conversation.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Saturday, tactical teams were able to enter the residence and arrested the man.

When the police cleared the house, they found the bodies of an adult man and an adult woman. It appears that the victims were shot.

The suspect was taken to the district hospital with a suspected overdose.

Investigators also found a neighbor’s dog that had been shot around the time the first shots fired call came in.
